Whether you’re choosing a retirement community for yourself, or helping a senior loved one through the process, the decision is a significant one that requires some careful consideration. Although retirement plans and goals are different for everyone, here are some essential factors to keep in mind when making your choice.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Retirement Community

1. Lifestyle

It’s important to think about the lifestyle that will best suit your preferences and make a decision based on what works best for you. We recommend checking out a few different communities in order to find that special something that sets one apart from the rest. At the end of the day, you only retire once!

How Does Veranda Measure Up?

Designed for seniors 62 years and above, Veranda of Pensacola is Northwest Florida's premier retirement community, offering seniors an elegant, active lifestyle that will continue to enrich their lives. If you, or your loved one, is looking for a resort-style retirement, Veranda is truly among the best.

2. Activities and Amenities

Determining how you would like to spend your days will help you find a community that aligns with these interests and needs. Are you looking for somewhere with a fitness center, swimming pool, walking trails, libraries, arts and crafts studios, social activities? The more a community can offer you, the more likely you are to enjoy living there.

We believe that when the mind is happy and being stimulated, a person’s overall attitude and health is improved, which is why being a resident at Veranda offers unlimited possibilities. There is no need to leave the property to experience fine dining, live musical entertainment, intellectual discussions, or even the salon!

At Veranda of Pensacola, we are committed to helping our residents maintain the healthiest lifestyle possible, which is why we have partnered with Select Rehab, whose Physical Therapists lead our exercise classes. Do you like to have fun while getting your heart pumping?  Then the water exercise class in our heated indoor pool will suit you perfectly!

3. Healthcare Services

Some retirement communities offer various healthcare services and levels of care. From independent living to assisted living and memory care, it’s always helpful if you can anticipate future needs and ensure the community can accommodate changes in your loved one’s health or lifestyle preferences.

How Does Veranda Measure Up?

At Veranda, we are committed to helping our residents have the healthiest and happiest life possible. We understand that everyone has their own preferred way of staying well and active, so we provide a variety of amenities, as well as 3 lifestyle options:

  • Independent Living: Independent living is a popular choice among our active and healthy residents, who have chosen to downsize, simplify their lives, and enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle in a community of peers. It offers a sense of community and belonging while empowering our residents to maintain control over their daily lives and activities.

  • Assisted Living: Assisted living at Veranda is a type of senior housing and care option that provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) for older adults who need some support but still want to maintain a level of independence. We offer a combination of housing, personalized care services, and social activities to create a supportive and engaging environment for our residents.

  • Recuperative Care: Our recuperative care services are particularly beneficial for individuals who have undergone major medical treatments or surgeries and require a period of recovery and rehabilitation before they can safely return home. Providing a supportive and supervised environment for healing and recovery, recuperative care bridges the gap between hospitalization and returning to a regular routine.

4. Dining Options

Meals are not only a time for seniors to eat, but also a social event. When considering different communities, be on the lookout for flexible meal plans, varied menus, and consider any special dietary requirements you may have.

5. Staff

Friendly and attentive staff can greatly contribute to a positive living experience, creating a strong sense of community amongst residents.
